Dr. Mahesh Saqcena Awarded The Horst Schulz Biochemistry Prize.

The CUNY Ph.D. Program in Biochemistry has announced the 2015 Horst Schulz Biochemistry Prize. The award recipient is Dr. Mahesh Saqcena, who received his doctoral degree working in the Hunter College Department of Biological Sciences, in the laboratory of Dr. David Foster. Dr. Saqcena presented a talk about his work on Friday, February 20, 2015 in the Elebash Hall of The Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Ave., New York, NY. The title of his talk was "Blocking anaplerotic entry of glutamine to TCA cycle sensitizes K-Ras mutant cancer cells to cytotoxic drugs.
The Horst Schulz Biochemistry Prize is given in recognition of an outstanding research paper published in 2013. The competition is open to all current CUNY Biochemistry PhD students and recent graduates of this program who published a first-authored paper in 2013. Dr. Saqcena is presently a post-doctoral fellow in the lab of James Fagin at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
