Specialized Neuroscience Research Program at Hunter College
Prof. Marie Filbin is the director of the Specialized Neuroscience Research Program (SNRP). The overall goal of the SNRP is to create a strong Neuroscience Research Program at Hunter College. To learn more about this program please visit the Hunter SNRP web site.
Hunter's Quantitative Biology Initiative
Hunter College is one of only nine institutions of higher education in the country to offer an interdisciplinary program in quantitative biology. Students majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics or Statistics can add a quantitative biology concentration to their major. Our Department
Hunter College is located at the intersection of 68th Street and Lexington ave. in Manhatten's upper East Side. The Biology department occupies the 8th and 9th floors of the Hunter North building. The mission of the Department of Biological Sciences parallels that of Hunter College: to provide a quality education for our undergraduate and graduate students, enabling them to participate productively in their chosen pursuits.The Department actively encourages specific careers such as academic and industrial research, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and college and high school teaching. At the same time, the Department takes a leading role in promoting the college-wide goals of broadening and deepening an individual's outlook, and of heightening intellectual creativity

The Center for Study of Gene Structure and Function
The Hunter College department of Biological Sciences is one of the founding members of the The Center for Study of Gene Structure and Function. The Gene Center is a consortium of researchers within Hunter College of The City University of New York — one of the largest public universities in the nation. It boasts unparalleled quality and diversity in its researchers on both the faculty and graduate student levels.
Socrates Center
The Socrates Center is a multimedia learning center for biology students. It is a quiet place to study, connect with other students and utilize a number of computer, audiovisual and printed resources. Students may also use our computers to write papers, check e-mail and browse the Internet. In addition, BIOL 100/102 instructors will hold their office hours in the Center. MARC/MBRS Program at Hunter
The MARC and MBRS Programs at Hunter College are supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and are intended to encourage talented undergraduate minority students to pursue a career in research and science. Students in both programs receive a scholarship and financial support for conducting research throughout the academic year in a Hunter College laboratory. For more information click here.

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute Undergraduate Science Education Program
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute Undergraduate Science Education Program at Hunter College offers academic year and summer research internships for undergraduate biology majors, a summer biology education workshop for New York City public middle school and high school teachers, research laboratory outreach initiatives for high school students, and mentor support for junior faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences.
